Nutrients

Nutrients are chemical compositions that human beings need to survive and carry out vital functions. Generally speaking, we get nutrients from the foods that we eat. The ones that are crucial for the human body and that can only be obtained nutritionally are called ‘essential nutrients.’

Nutrients can be divided into two main groups: macronutrients and micronutrients. The body needs large quantities of the first, while just a small amount of the second type is required. Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients; proteins, carbohydrates, and fats are macronutrients.

These kinds of nutrients can be found in varying amounts in plant-based foods and others of animal origin. For example, meat and legumes are rich in protein, while fruits and vegetables are the best sources of vitamins.
