The coronavirus pandemic has hit hard in many countries around the world. However, some are already adapting to the 'new normal', not to mention the more than 140,000 deaths it has left behind. Now, countries that are past the first weeks of the epidemic are beginning to plan a slow return to normal activity. And, at the same time, the pandemic is beginning to affect other areas of the world.

WHO Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom said that while "the number of new cases and deaths is falling in some countries, it is rising in others."  The platform 'OurWorldInData', from Oxford University, has allowed us to observe the evolution of coronavirus in 10 of the countries with most new infections per day.

United States

Without a doubt, the United States is the country with the most deaths and infections of coronavirus, with 28,369 cases in one day and a total of 1,256,972 confirmed cases. The number of deaths is 75,670, making it the country with the highest number of deaths from the pandemic; on May 8, 2,239 new deaths were recorded.

Russia

The number of positive tests in Russia has been increasing for almost a month now. On April 10, there were 10,000 positives, while on May 1 the number reached 100,000. On Friday, 8 May, a total of 177,160 positive cases were reported, as well as 1,625 deaths.

Brazil

It is another country that is increasing its cases in recent weeks. On 5 April, it had 10,000 cases and, like Russia, on 5 May the number of cases was 100,000. On 8 May, 9,888 cases were registered in one day, a total of 135,106 infections and 9,146 deaths.
