1. Ingredients for 4 people:
1 liter of milk
4 egg yolks
8 tablespoons of cornflour
8 full tablespoons of sugar
250 grams of sugar (for the caramelization)
Liquid vanilla essence
2. Elaboration
Put some milk, the yolks, the cornflour, and the sugar in a pan and mix it until it becomes a homogeneous dough. Then, put the pan over low heat and stir everything with a wooden spoon. It is important to not stop stirring so the dough does not stick together.
When you see the custard is thick and it starts to boil, pour some drops of vanilla essence, in this case, pour as much as you want -depending on whether you prefer more or less vanilla flavor.
Remove it from the heat, and pour them into small custard cups without them being very thick, and let them cool. They can also be spread on a tray.
Once the custard dough is cold, sprinkle the sugar on top of each one and to caramelize it, use a butane torch. Finally, we put all the custard cups in the fridge so you eat them cold.
3. Other ways of presenting it
As it has been mentioned before, there are many different presentations and variations of the custard recipe. For example, we recommend putting a biscuit on top of the custard before putting it into the fridge. You can also do homemade biscuits for it if you prefer.
You can also use 250 grams of strawberries to cover the top of the custard with a delicious strawberry milkshake. In this case, you only have to make a milkshake with the strawberries and the sugar -to your liking- and cover the dessert with it.
You could also use ingredients such as lemon and orange rind to give your homemade dessert a bit of more taste.
Finally, you can also add some toppings to your dish such as cinnamon powder, crushed almonds or walnuts, or chocolate.
