The word sexuality refers to all behaviors and experiences that are related to searching for and obtaining sexual pleasure. Sometimes it is used as a synonym for ‘sex,’ but this is not always the case since it depends on how you define the two concepts.
The sex organs (both genitals and other areas, for example, the nipples) are the epicenter of the feelings that make up human sexuality. However, psychological and social factors also have a significant impact on how one experiences sex. On a different note, both sexual dysfunction and paraphilia both have a biological determining factor.
Sexuality was considered a taboo topic by Western society for many centuries. Finally, during the past few decades, ideas about sex have changed significantly, which in turn has led to numerous scientific investigations on these processes, like the description of the human sexual response by Masters and Johnson in the 60s.
